why i love photoshop

I love photoshop.

I must admit for most photos I do very little, just tweak the levels and crop them to size. But every now and again, some serious background work needs doing to turn a useless shot with potential into something I'm really quite happy with.

Here is a recent example. The timber slat I use as my background for most of my photos is just too small, especially for necklaces and other long or bulky items. But I love the colour of it, and the way the light hits it. I will need to find a new piece I know, but until then, I love photoshop!

The 'before' shot...

...and the 'after' shot!

  1. very cool michelle. I should look into using photoshop but it scares me. I can do basic editing on my iphoto (yes I have a mac) but I can't erase background junk... What my one big issue with photos is that they look fine until I upload them onto etsy or blogger and then they just looked washed out and lose colour...any ideas

  2. You need levels! My fave tool. It's a bit like brightness and contrast, but I think it works better. I'm no expert, so I can't explain the techie difference. Send me a shot and I'll do a simple level tweak on it for you to show you! I think I hve heard that complaint from a lot of Mac users, or was it just iphoto users? Iphoto shows you your photos a particular way, using a colour profile, and of course, that colour profile is not used on etsy or the internet. Hmm, dodgy explanation sorry!

  3. I've got iphoto 09 (8.1.1) - does pretty much most of the things I used to use photoshop for - got a great touch-up tool, and basic levels adjustments - just can't change the colour on one area at a time (i.e lightening background only). This was upgrading from my piece-of-crap 6 year old Mac with old-old iphoto.. so maybe just worth upgrading to the new iphoto version Del? It is faster than using photoshop I find.

  4. Photoshop definitely rocks! My pics would not be the same without it.

  5. I love Photoshop! My pictures have taken a drastic turn for the better since learning how to use it. If anyone out there doesn't know how to use it and wants to learn, go to youtube.com. You can find ANY tutorial there and they are usually very good.
